WASHINGTON (AA) – U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders said Friday he would vote for Hillary Clinton in elections in November.

Sanders said stopping the only Republican candidate from becoming president was his ultimate goal.

“I think the issue right here is I’m gonna to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump,” he said during an interview with the MSNBC’s Morning Joe television show.

The self-proclaimed socialist also rejected the idea of ending his presidential bid although Clinton has already secured enough delegate votes for the Democrat Party’s nomination.

“Why would I want to do that when I want to fight to make sure that we have the best platform that we possibly can, that we win the most delegates that we can … the goal of our campaign was to transform this nation?” he said.

The Vermont senator later told CBS that he dismissed the idea of endorsing Clinton, saying he has not heard the former Secretary of State say the things that “needs to be said.”

Sanders also stressed that his continuing presence did not create disunity for the Democratic Party.
