ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index increased 1.38% to 116,907.77 points at close on Thursday.
After starting the day at 115,843.62 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 1,592.79 points from Wednesday's close of 115,314.98 points.
The Borsa Istanbul posted a 29.9% rise this April-June, its strongest quarterly performance in 11 years, Turkey’s finance and treasury minister said on early Thursday.
During the day, the index hovered between 115,746.00 and 117,177.73 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was roughly 851.57 billion Turkish liras ($124.44 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 20.9 billion Turkish liras ($3.05 billion).
On the fourth transaction day of the week, 82 stocks on the index rose, 12 were down and six were flat compared to Wednesday.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, automotive firm Karsan and leasing firm Isfin.
Bulk food provider Bizim was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while investment firm Global Yatirim dropped the most, losing 1.18%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,772.85 by market close, down from $1,777.90 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $42.20 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
