Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts 2019 down

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange started the first trading day of 2019 down 0.31 percent or 284.35 points to open at 90,986.13 points on Wednesday.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed the day at 91,270.48 points with a daily trading volume of 2.28 billion Turkish lira ($432 million).

The benchmark stock index was closed on Tuesday due to the New Year's Day.

The U.S. dollar hovered around 5.2950 Turkish liras at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared with Monday's closing rate of 3.2920.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.0890, compared to Monday’s close at 6.0550

One British pound traded for 6.7770 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY rate was 6.7810 by market close on Monday.

The price of Brent oil fell to $53.12 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday, down from the previous closing rate of $54.12.

Turkish stocks down 0.63 pct at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday down 0.63 percent at 89,961.91 points.

Starting the day at 90,595.64 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went down 566.73 points from last week's close at 90,528.64 points.

One U.S. dollar traded for 5.3770 Turkish liras at daily close, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.3930 at close on Friday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1060, versus 6.0840 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.8000 Turkish liras, down from Friday's close of 6.7770.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,240.30 by market close, up from $1,239.00 at the previous close.

Hovering between $60.11 and $61.21 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $60.49 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Monday.

Turkey's benchmark stock index down at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.34 percent or 314.39 points to open at 91,072.14 points on Friday.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 1.48 percent to close the day at 91,386.52 points with a daily trading volume of 6.7 billion Turkish lira ($1.25 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to 5.3650 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Thursday's closing rate of 5.3360.

The euro/lira rate was 6.0950, versus 6.0700 at the last close. One British pound was exchanged for 6.7870 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.7770 by market close on Thursday.

The price of Brent oil was around $61.09 per barrel as of 10.10 a.m. local time (0710GMT) Friday.

Turkish stocks down at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Tuesday down 0.46 percent to close at 91,800.86 points.

Starting the day at 92,449.60 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 426.47 points from Monday's close.

As of daily close, one U.S. dollar traded for 5.3720 Turkish liras, while the USD/TRY exchange rate was 5.3060 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1110, compared with Monday's close of 5.0590.

One British pound traded for 6.7770 Turkish liras, versus 6.7110 at close on Monday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,249 by market close, versus $1,247 at the previous close.

Hovering between $59.59 and $61.09 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $60.81 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) Tuesday.

Turkey's benchmark stock index up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.38 percent or 365.92 points to start the day at 97,819.88 points on Friday.

Among all sector indices, the BIST leasing factoring index showed the best opening — up 2.46 percent — while the BIST insurance index posted the worst performance with a 0.85-percent fall.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went down 1.55 percent to close the day at 97,453.96 points with a trading volume of 7.8 billion liras ($1.4 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.6120 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Thursday's closing rate of 5.5820.

The euro/lira rate was 6.4330 , versus 6.4210 at the previous close, while one British pound was traded for 7.3360 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY was 7.3200 at Thursday's close.

The price of Brent oil was $79.65 per barrel as of 09:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Friday, up from around $66 at the beginning of this year.

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.17 percent to close at 98,466.42 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 98,573.87 points and ended day down 164.85 points from the previous close.

The BIST 100's daily peak was 99,224.28 points while it fell to 97,906.63 points during Tuesday's trading. Compared with the previous close, 52 stocks on the index rose, 38 fell, and 10 were flat.

Among all sectors, the BIST leasing factoring index recorded the top performance — up 14.70 percent — and the BIST transportation index showed the largest decline, falling 3.35 percent.

Shares of leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama (ISFIN) enjoyed the highest gain, rising 19.91 percent, while stocks of casting producer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) fell the most with a 19.85-percent drop.

The benchmark index' trade volume was 8.7 billion liras ($1.5 billion), ending Tuesday with a total market value of around 645 billion liras ($111 billion).

Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.17 billion), iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($6.56 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($5.92 billion) were the leading companies by market capitalization.

Daily trade volume leaders were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, lenders Garanti Bankasi and Halkbank, defense company Aselsan, and petrochemicals producer Petkim.

As of daily close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira stood at 5.7780, versus Monday's closing rate of 5.7830.

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 2.04 percent to close at 98,631.27 points on Monday, while the value of the Turkish lira against the U.S. dollar hit a two-month high.

Starting the week at 97,346.96 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went up 1,973.85 points from last week's close of 96,657.42 points. For a third consecutive business day, the BIST 100 closed the day in the green, as it rose by 0.32 percent on Thursday and 2.02 percent on Friday.

The BIST 100 saw above 99,000 points — reaching daily peak at 99,037.88 points in Monday's trading. Compared with the previous close, 86 stocks on the index rose, 12 fell, and two were flat.

The BIST banking index showed the strongest performance among all sectors, rising 4.99 percent, while the BIST metal products machinery index fell the most with a 0.20 percent drop.

Shares of casting producer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) were the top gainer — up 12.93 percent, and stocks of automotive manufacturer Ford Otosan (FROTO) saw Monday's worst record, going down 4.25 percent.

The BIST 100's listed companies' trade volume was 9.72 billion liras ($1.67 billion), ending Monday with a total market value of some 645 billion liras ($109.3 billion).

Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.13 billion), iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik ($6.51 billion), and energy giant Tupras ($5.78 billion) were the leading companies by market capitalization.

Private lender Garanti, defense company Aselsan, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, state-run lender Halkbank, and petrochemicals producer Petkim recorded the highest daily trade volumes.

By market close, the USD/TRY exchange rate fell to 5.7830, down from Friday's closing rate of 5.9320, marking the lira's best showing in two months.

The average U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.04 during the first two weeks of October, 6.38 last month, and 5.74 in August.

The euro/lira rate also showed a steep decline — standing at 6.7020 versus 6.8510 at the previous close — and one British pound exchanged for 7.6080 compared to 7.8240 at Friday's close.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,225.00 at Monday's close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, while the price was $1,221.00 at the previous close.

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.38 percent or 364.01 points to open the day at 96,451.28 points on Tuesday.

At the daily open, all sector indices saw rises, but the BIST telecommunication index gained the most — up 0.85 percent.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 1.27 percent on Monday to close the day at 96,087.27 points, with a trading volume of 7.6 billion liras ($1.23 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.0980 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Monday's closing rate of 6.1260.

The euro/lira rate was 7.0020 on Tuesday morning, versus 7.0340 at the previous close, while one British pound was traded for 7.9940 Turkish liras, down from 8.0100 at Monday's close.

The price of Brent oil was $84.46 per barrel as of 10:30 a.m. local time (0730GMT) Tuesday, starting the day at $83.73, up from around $66 at the beginning of this year.
