JAKARTA (AA) – Indonesia has expressed condolences over the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“Indonesia offers our deepest condolences to Jamal Khashoggi’s family, ” said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in a joint news conference with her Saudi counterpart Adel Al-Jubeir after a meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday.

During their meeting, Marsudi reportedly told her Saudi counterpart that Indonesia was very concerned regarding what happened to Khashoggi.

“As the situation is very concerning, the meeting aimed to state Indonesia’s stance regarding the case, ” she said.

She also urged Saudis to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation into the case.

“Minister Al Jubeir stressed that Saudi are determined to uncover all the facts, ” she said.

According to Jubeir, the Saudi Attorney General is investigating 18 suspects who have been arrested for their alleged involvement in Khashoggi’s murder.

Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post, had gone missing since entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

After days of denying to know his whereabouts, Saudi Arabia on Saturday admitted that Khashoggi died during a “brawl ” inside the consulate.

On the day of Khashoggi’s disappearance, 15 other Saudis, including several officials, arrived in Istanbul on two planes and visited the consulate while he was still inside, according to Turkish police sources. All of the identified individuals have since left Turkey.

A joint Turkish-Saudi team completed an investigation into the case last Thursday after searching the residence of the consul general as well as the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
