US stock markets up as Trump prepares to take oath

NEW YORK (AA) – The stock market opened higher on Friday as President-elect Donald Trump prepared to be sworn-in as the country’s 45th president on his inauguration day.

The Dow added 94 points to open at 19,827. The S&P was up 12 points to 2,275.

The Nasdaq increased 32 points to start the final trading day of the week at 5,572.

Crude oil prices were up by more than 2 percent.

At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up 2.3 percent to $53.39 a barrel, while international benchmark Brent crude was at $55.50 — a 2.2 percent increase.

The market and investors await Trump’s inauguration ceremony to begin minutes from now at 1700 GMT, and will closely follow his first speech.
