UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up nearly 1% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 114,753.97 points on Monday, up 0.94% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 114,057.03 points. As of the daily close, it gained 1,070.36 points from last week's close of 113,683.61 points.

During Monday's trading, the index hovered between 114,057.03 points and 114,961.51 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 781.8 billion Turkish liras ($131.7 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 9.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 64 stocks on the index rose, 33 were down, and three were flat compared to Friday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense giant Aselsan, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Real estate investment trust Ihlas Gayrimenkul was the best performer, with its shares up 11.93%, while energy company Odas dropped the most, down 5.24%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,512 by market close, up from $1,510 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $67 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
