UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at closing

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.63% to close Wednesday at 1,099.02 points.

After starting the day at 1,090.10 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 6.86 points from Tuesday's close of 1,092.16 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,077.32 and 1,096.18 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 804.9 billion Turkish liras ($109.25 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 16.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 61 stocks on the index rose, 35 fell and four were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass producer Sisecam, petrochemical firm Petkim and insurance company Gunes Sigorta.

Food company Tat Gida was the best performer, with its shares up 5.88%, while stocks of polyester producer Sasa dropped the most, losing 6.02%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,909 by market close, down from $1,926.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $46.10 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Wednesday.
