UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down over 1% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index on Tuesday closed the day at 119,574.10 points, down 1.01% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 120,451.43 points. As of the daily close, it had lost 1,217.76 points from Monday's close of 120,791.86 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 119,144.88 points and 120,451.43 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 831.1 billion Turkish liras ($137.7 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.7 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 18 stocks on the index rose, 79 were down, and three were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense giant Aselsan and insurance company Gunes.

Petrol company Turcas was the best performer, with its shares up 2.19%, while energy firm Zorlu dropped the most, down 5.20%.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $57.10 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
