UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at weekly close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.76% to 1,100.55 points at close on Friday.

After starting the day at 1,112.88 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 8.38 points from Thursday's close of 1,108.93 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,094.84 and 1,113.55 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 807 billion Turkish liras ($110.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 13.17 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 25 stocks on the index rose, 74 fell and one was flat compared to Thursday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron-steel producer Kardemir, private lender Garanti and petrochemical giant Petkim.

Venture capital firm Gozde was the best performer, with its shares up 6.88%, while stocks of investment trust firm Torunlar GYO dropped the most, losing 4.19%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,956.05 by market close, up from $1,941.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $45.70 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday.
