UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at Monday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday at 1,377.23 points, down by 2.20% versus the previous close.

Starting the week at 1,411.05 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index has lost 30.91 points over the last week's close at 1,408.14 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,377.23 points, while its daily high was 1,416.03 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 977.48 billion Turkish liras ($121.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 16.83 billion Turkish liras ($2.09 billion).

In the first transaction day of the week, 11 stocks on the index rose and 89 fell compared to Friday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producers Eregli, petrochemical giant Petkim and private lender Garanti BBVA.

Sports organization Fenerbahce was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of energy firm Odas dropped the most, 9.85%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,770.50 by market close, down from $1,780 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66.60 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Monday.
