UPDATE – Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at closing

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped 0.15% to 1,143.51 points at the close on Thursday.

After starting the day at 1,150.07 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1.73 points from Wednesday's close of 1,145.24 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,142.77 and 1,155.38 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 835.19 billion Turkish liras ($107.73 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 20.9 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 46 stocks on the index rose, 53 fell, and three were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass producer Sisecam, private lender Garanti, and defense giant Aselsan.

The conglomerate Celebi, active in airport operations, was the best performer, with its shares up 9.95%, while stocks of cement producer Cimsa dropped the most, losing 8.03%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,899.80 by market close, up from $1,883.75 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40.05 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Thursday.
