UPDATE – Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul down at close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,401.52 points on Tuesday, down 0.34% versus the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,401.64 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 4.90 points from the previous close of 1,401.64 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,411 points, while its daily high was 1,428.07 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1 trillion Turkish liras ($121.04 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 18.06 billion Turkish liras ($2.17 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 27 stocks on the index rose, 72 fell, and one was same compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Eregli, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and private lender Garanti BBVA.

Paper producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of cement producer Nuh Cimento dropped the most, 3.90%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,781.75 by market close, up from $1,770 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $68.50 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
