Twitter rolls out audio tweets for iOS users

WASHINGTON (AA) – Twitter said Wednesday it is testing a new feature that allows users of Apple’s iOS operating system to create voice tweets.

"You can Tweet a Tweet. But now you can Tweet your voice! Rolling out today on iOS, you can now record and Tweet with audio," the company announced in a tweet.

Each voice tweet can record up to 140 seconds of audio. Users who top 140 seconds will see a new voice tweet start automatically to create a thread.

"Tweeting with your voice is not too different from Tweeting with text," said the microblogging site in a statement.

Voice tweets will be available to a limited group of people on Twitter for iOS for now. In the coming weeks, however, every iOS user should be able to tweet with their voice.

"Everyone will be able to see (hear) them and reply. Learn more in our help center," it added.

The character count limit was originally 140 on Twitter, but the company expanded it to 280 in 2017.
