Turkish stocks higher at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark index was up 0.26 percent at the close of the daily session on Monday, Oct. 31.

The BIST 100 index rose 203.30 points to close at 78,536.17. The total trading volume of the country’s stock exchange market was 2.9 billion Turkish liras (approx. $934 million).

On the first day of the week, the banking sector index was up 1.08 percent while the holding sector index fell 0.31 percent.

Among sector indices, the investment trusts index rose the most by 1.77 percent, while the biggest decline was seen in the sports index which went down 0.89 percent.

The most heavily traded stocks were software producer Logo, private lender Garanti Bank, Turkish Airlines, state lender Halkbank, and Turkey’s prominent sports club Fenerbahce.

Shares of Hurriyet, a major daily, were the top percent gainer with an increase of 6.25 percent in value, while heavyweight Istanbul sports club Galatasaray was the top percent loser as its shares were down 6.35 percent.

The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index rose 0.26 percent in value, with gold trading at 127,300 Turkish liras (some $41,009) per kilogram.

The Turkish lira gained value against the U.S. dollar to trade at 3.1040 compared to Friday’s closing rate of 3.1220.
