Turkish soldier dies after anti-terror operation

ANKARA (AA) – A soldier injured during a counter-terrorism operation in southeastern Turkey earlier this week has passed away in an Ankara hospital.

According to a statement from the Turkish General Staff on Friday, the soldier was hurt in an operation against PKK terrorists in the province of Sirnak on Tuesday.

The soldier was being treated at the Gulhane Military Hospital (GATA) in the Turkish capital.

“A soldier who was seriously injured in operations held on 26 April in Sirnak, died on Thursday night despite all efforts in the hospital where he was taken for treatment,” the military statement read.

The Turkish General Staff sent its deepest condolences to the martyr’s family and the Turkish nation, the statement added.
