Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.38 percent, or 342.16 points, to open at 90,883.69 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul was closed on Monday due to Turkey's Republic Day.

The banking and holding sector indices gained 0.43 percent and 0.63 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the metal products machinery sector index posted the best performance, up 1.06 percent, and the wholesale and retail trade sector index was the worst, down 0.65 percent.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 90,541.53, down 3.42 percent, or 3,206.12 points, with a trading volume of 5.74 billion liras ($1.02 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange fell to 5.5550 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday. It was 5.6350 at Friday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate also dropped to 6.3230 by market open — from 6.4030 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 7.1240 Turkish liras versus 7.2120 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil stood at $77.33 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Tuesday, while it was sold for $66 at the beginning of this year.
