Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.42 percent, or 409.96 points, to open at 97,013.71 points on Thursday.

The Borsa Istanbul banking and holding sector indices were up 0.40 percent and 0.58 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the textile leather sector index posted the best performance, up 0.98 percent, while the wholesale and retail trade sector index was the sole sector on decline, losing 0.01 percent.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 96,603.75, up 1.81 percent, or 1,716.88 points, with a trade volume of 8.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.33 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.2520 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, compared with 6.2540 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate climbed slightly to 7.3220 by market open — from 7.2970 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 8.2450 Turkish liras versus 8.2280 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil stood at $79.73 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (07000GMT) Thursday, compared to $79.19 on Wednesday — climbing from around $66 at the beginning of 2018.
