Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.48 percent, or 447.20 points, to open at 92,836.31 points on Wednesday.

On the third transaction day of the week, the banking and holding sector indices gained 0.57 percent and 0.60 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the telecommunication sector index posted the best performance, up 0.90 percent, while the investment trusts sector index was the sole sector to drop, losing 0.13 percent.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 92,389.11, up 0.75 percent, or 690.77 points, with a trade volume of around 5.4 billion Turkish liras ($835 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 6.4440 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday. It was 6.4740 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate declined to 7.4600 by market open — from 7.4980 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 8.3990 Turkish liras versus 8.4240 at Tuesday's close.

The price of Brent oil dropped slightly to $79.25 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday, compared to $78.60 at the end of Tuesday — climbing from around $66 at the beginning of 2018.
