Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose by 0.44 percent, or 407.63 points, to open at 93,170.94 points on Friday.

On the last transaction day of the week, the BIST banking and holding sector indices gained 0.45 percent and 0.43 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the tourism sector index posted the highest increase, up 1.02 percent, while the wholesale and retail trade sector index saw the biggest drop, losing 0.12 percent.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 92,763.31, down 0.03 percent, or 27.68 points, with a trade volume of 5.1 billion Turkish liras (around $776 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange fell slightly to 6.5590 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, from 6.5650 at Thursday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate dropped to 7.6360 by market open — from 7.6610 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 8.5100 Turkish liras versus 8.5280 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil decreased slightly to $76.53 per barrel as of 10.15 a.m. local time (0715GMT) Friday, compared to $77.50 on Thursday — climbing from around $66 at the beginning of 2018.
