Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day up

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.36 percent, or 330.76 points, to open at 93,121.74 points on Thursday.

The Borsa Istanbul banking and holding sector indices were up 0.39 percent and 0.20 percent, respectively.

While all sector indices started the day on rise, the basic metal sector index posted the best performance, up 0.77 percent.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 92,790.99, down 0.43 percent, or 398.28 points, with a trade volume of 6.3 billion Turkish liras ($950.4 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange fell to 6.6090 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday. It was 6.6280 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate dropped slightly to 7.6980 by market open — from 7.7050 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 8.5780 Turkish liras versus 8.6080 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil stood at $77.31 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (07000GMT) Thursday, compared to $77.31 on Wednesday — climbing from around $66 at the beginning of 2018.
