Turkey's Borsa Istanbul goes up at close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index increased 3.22 percent to close Monday at 106,525.25 points with a trading volume of around 6.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index ended the day with a 3,325.17 point increase from Friday's close of 103,200.08 points, while it opened the day at 104,481.11 points.

The banking and holding sector indices rose 2.70 percent and 3.28 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the leasing factoring sector index was the best performer, rising 9.60 percent,

The USD/TRY exchange rate decreased to 4.5930 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Monday, down from 4.7210 at Friday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate decreased to 5.3410 by market close, versus 5.5000 at the previous close, while the British pound/lira exchange rate stood at 6.1260, compared with 6.3000 at Friday's close.

The BIST Gold Exchange index ended the day with a 0.08 percent decrease. In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,299.00 as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Monday, compared with $1,300.00 at Friday's close.

As of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $75.29 per barrel.
