Turkey's benchmark stock index up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.49 percent, or 444,93 points, to open at 90,444.83 points Wednesday.

The banking and holding sector indices rose 0.66 percent and 0.62 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the BIST transportation index started the day as the best performer — up 0.90 percent, while the BIST insurance index performed the worst — down 0.25 percent.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 89,999.90, down 0.60 percent, or 541.63 points, with a trading volume of 5.7 billion Turkish liras (around $1.04 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate rose to 5.4980 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, while it was 5.4740 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate stood at 6.2380 by market open — from 6.2290 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 7.0040 Turkish liras over 6.9980 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil stood at $76.59 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday, compared to $76.18 on Tuesday.
