Turkey's benchmark stock index up at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.38 percent or 365.92 points to start the day at 97,819.88 points on Friday.

Among all sector indices, the BIST leasing factoring index showed the best opening — up 2.46 percent — while the BIST insurance index posted the worst performance with a 0.85-percent fall.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went down 1.55 percent to close the day at 97,453.96 points with a trading volume of 7.8 billion liras ($1.4 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.6120 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Thursday's closing rate of 5.5820.

The euro/lira rate was 6.4330 , versus 6.4210 at the previous close, while one British pound was traded for 7.3360 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY was 7.3200 at Thursday's close.

The price of Brent oil was $79.65 per barrel as of 09:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Friday, up from around $66 at the beginning of this year.
