Turkey's benchmark stock index goes down at open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange dropped 1.07 percent, or 1,105.53 points, to open at 102,264.89 points on Tuesday.

On the second transaction day of the week, the banking and holding sector indices decreased 1.23 percent and 1.04 percent, respectively.

All sector indices started the day with a decline, while the telecommunication sector index saw the worst drop, down 1.66 percent.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed at 103,370.42 points, up 1.49 percent, with a 5.47 billion-Turkish lira ($1.26 billion) trade volume.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 4.3850 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday. It was 4.3200 at Monday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate rose to 5.2290 by market open, compared with 5.1760 on Monday.

The price of Brent oil prices per barrel stood at $78.20 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Tuesday. It was $78.23 at the previous close.
