Turkey to mark May 19 with virtual run fest

ANKARA (AA) – The Turkish Athletic Federation announced Monday that it will celebrate Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day with a digital run fest on May 19.

Forty-six national athletes, famous personalities and hundreds of runners from 12 countries will participate in the historic project, running inside their homes.

Aykut Celikbas, who has a 24-hour ultra-marathon runner record in Turkey, will seek a new record of 19 hours and 19 minutes.

Also, World and European champion Ramil Guliyev, Turkish record holder Eda Tugsuz, owner of European champions and Olympic medalist Yasmani Copello, U23 European champion Necati Er and U23 Turkey champion Tugba Danismaz will join the run.

The May 19 Flag Run will be broadcast live.

The event will be organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
