Turkey extends condolences to quake-hit Indonesia

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey on Sunday extended condolences to Indonesia over the loss of lives in a powerful earthquake in the country's East Java province.

"We have received the news with deep sorrow that an earthquake occurred near Malang city of East Java province, Indonesia, which caused loss of at least eight lives, many injuries as well as substantial damage in the area," a Turkish Foreign Ministry statement said.

"We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our sincere condolences to their loved ones, as well as to the brotherly people and Government of Indonesia, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," the statement added.

A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake had rattled Indonesia’s East Java province on Saturday.
