ANKARA/KILIS (AA) – Five people were arrested Friday in counterterrorism operations in the capital Ankara and in the central province of Konya.

Arrest warrants were issued for seven suspects.

Counterterrorism units in Ankara arrested the suspects over alleged links to the al-Nusra Front terror group, now known as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.

Various documents and digital records were seized.

Separately, a suspected Daesh terrorist member and a Syrian national were arrested in the southeastern province of Kilis as they were attempting to cross the border.

Turkish security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to thwart Daesh attacks.

More than 300 people have lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bombings and rocket-and-gun attacks.
