MOSCOW (AA) – Russia's prime minister met with his Pakistani counterpart in Shanghai on Monday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 1st China International Import Expo, according to a statement posted on the Russian government's official website.

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Pakistan's Imran Khan on getting the prime ministerial post this August, calling Pakistan a "large and very promising partner" for Russia.

"This is a good opportunity to discuss current affairs and maybe even come up with some interesting new proposals which could be implemented," he said.

Russia and Pakistan actively cooperate in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The two countries also play an important role in the Afghan settlement process.
