Putin, Trump to meet in Germany

MOSCOW (AA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump will meet on Friday in the German city of Hamburg, a Kremlin aide confirmed on Tuesday.

Yuri Ushakov told reporters the first face-to-face meeting between the presidents will come on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

The two men are expected to discuss developments in Ukraine and Syria plus the 2016 expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from the U.S.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama’s closure of two Russian diplomatic compounds in late December — over alleged Russian interference in the American presidential election — will also feature in talks, the Kremlin said.

Following Obama’s move, Putin declined to retaliate in kind but Ushakov warned “Russia’s patience is running out”.
