JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) – Sinabung volcano on Indonesia's Sumatra island erupted again on Thursday, said authorities.
The latest in a string of the volcano's activity this week started at 6.07 a.m local time (2307GMT, a day earlier), according to a press release by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.
"Ash column towered to 1000 meters [0.6 miles] above the mountain peak or 3,460 above the sea level," the center said.
It said the wind tended to drag the columns of thick ash towards the east, south and southeast.
The eruption was recorded at a maximum amplitude of 15 mm and a duration of 11 minutes 59 seconds.
Authorities have issued a level III warning to monitor the Sinabung's status.
The volcanology center also warned residents and visitors to stay three kilometers (1.86 miles) away from the active crater.
It had also erupted earlier on Monday, spewing ash and smoke 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) above its crater.
Sinabung reactivated for the first time in four centuries in 2010. A total of 23 people were killed by eruptions in 2014 and 2016.
