ANKARA (AA) – With China’s vast 5G network as an advantage, technology guru Huawei on Tuesday announced that it is set to launch its own operating system HarmonyOS on June 2.

The Chinese telecom giant’s leap into launching operating system will be a competition in IT market with Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

HarmonyOS, known as Hongmeng in Chinese, was first launched on Internet-of-Things devices, Chinese daily Global Times reported.

The operating system has already been used on Huawei watches, laptops and home appliances over the past two years.

Huawei targets to reach 300 million devices which will be equipped with HarmonyOS by the end of 2021. It will include more than 200 million Huawei devices.

Huawei faces curbs from the US as Washington accuses the tech giant of collaborating with the Communist Party of China and sharing data with the government. Huawei denied it.
