ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – A major flood in the mountainous areas of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) hit several residential areas, according to the head of Erbil’s provincial council on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters in Erbil, Ali Rashid said heavy rainfall on Thursday damaged 102 houses in Varte village.
“We need help of the international community, the UN and the Iraqi government for the victims of the flood, ” Rashid said.
Torrential rains from Thursday to Friday in Iraq's Erbil and Sulaymaniyah districts destroyed several bridges and damaged the houses and refugee camps.
