French police arrest 4 terror suspects

PARIS (AA) – Three men and a teenage girl were arrested by counter-terrorism police in France on Friday on suspicion of planning a terror attack, local media said.

The men — aged 21, 27 and 34 — and a 16-year-old girl were apprehended near the southern city of Montpelier.

Broadcaster BFMTV said the four were known to police for having talked about traveling to Syria.

The station said they had been planning a “kamikaze attack on a tourist site in the French capital”. Bomb-making material was found at one of their addresses, it added.

There was no immediate official comment on the arrests.

Last week, a man was shot and wounded near the Louvre Museum in Paris after allegedly trying to attack soldiers with a knife.

France has been on high alert in the wake of several terror attacks in recent years.
