Football: MLS extends moratorium on matches

ISTANBUL (AA) – The top-tier football league in the U.S. extended postponement of matches in the country until at least June 8 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have extended the moratorium on matches until at least June 8," Major League Soccer (MLS) said in a statement on Friday.

"We are in discussion with our players about changes to player compensation due to the financial impact on the league and our clubs from the COVID-19 Crisis," it said.

The matches in the league has been suspended since March 12 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 37,000 people in the U.S. have died from the novel coronavirus, according to the data of Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
