ANKARA (AA) – Turkish Super Lig champions Besiktas announced late Thursday that their defender Marcelo was about to join the French club Olympique Lyon.
Besiktas said in a statement that they had agreed terms with Lyon for Marcelo’s move.
“Besiktas agreed with Olympique Lyon about the transfer of our player, Marcelo Antonio Guedes Filho,” said the Istanbul-based club, adding Lyon would pay €7.5 million ($8.5 million) for the defender, including bonuses.
The 30-year-old played for Besiktas as they claimed back-to-back Super Lig titles in 2016 and 2017.
Last season Marcelo scored three goals in 32 league appearances. He had joined Besiktas in February 2016.
