Football: Bayern Munich center back wants to stay put

BERLIN (AA) – Serdar Tasci, the Turkish-German center back for German football giants Bayern Munich, said on Monday that he wants to stay with the Bavarian club.

Loaned from Russian club Spartak Moscow, Serdar told Anadolu Agency, “I will do my best [for the rest of the matches]. Of course I want to stay. We are waiting for the transfer talks. A new manager will come and I should wait for a while.”

The 29-year-old player stated that there will be a total of seven matches if Bayern Munich is in the UEFA Champions League final.

Bayern Munich may make treble this season as the Bavarian club leads the German top division, Bundesliga, with 81 points. Borussia Dortmund are in the second spot with 74 points, with three matches to spare.

In addition Bayern will meet Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) final on May 21. Bayern Munich are also proceeding their way in the Champions League as they will meet Atletico Madrid in the semifinals. The semifinals’ first leg will be played on Wednesday in Spain.

“I feel confident. I’m working hard,” said Tasci. “Bayern Munich is one of the two or three best teams in the world. I came here in the deadline of the transfer window. So I was unable to join the team’s camp. I came from Russia and I had six weeks off. I was lacking training practice. When I came here, Bundesliga had been already started. It wasn’t easy for me.”

He added, “I hadn’t trained for six weeks, while everyone was in shape. It’s not enough to train a bit in the best team of the world. I trained a lot.”

Saying that he had no problem adapting to the team, Serdar added that he knows most of his teammates at Bayern from Germany’s National Team or Bundesliga.

Meanwhile Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola praised him after Saturday’s league match against Hertha Berlin, which visitors Bayern Munich won 2-0.

“He was terrific. He will be helping our team in this period of the season. Serdar showed how I treated him unfairly,” Guardiola told the German media.

Tasci, who was loaned from Spartak Moscow on Feb. 1, is a former Stuttgart veteran. He played for the other Bundesliga team from 2006 to 2013.

Tasci helped Stuttgart win the Bundesliga title in 2007. In the summer of 2013 he was signed by Spartak Moscow.
