EU grants UK Brexit extension until Oct. 31

By Ahmet Gurhan Kartal</p> <p>LONDON (AA) – Leaders of the European Union agreed late Wednesday to grant an extension to the U.K. on Brexit up to the end of October with a review in June.</p> <p>European Council President Donald Tusk said on Twitter that the EU’s 27 member states agreed on the extension at an emergency Brexit summit.</p> <p>“EU27 has agreed an extension of Art. 50. I will now meet PM Theresa May for the UK government's agreement,” Tusk tweeted.</p> <p>Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat later confirmed that the delay would be until Oct. 31.</p> <p>“A Brexit extension until 31 October is sensible since it gives time to the UK to finally choose its way. The review in June will allow EUCO [European Council] to take stock of the situation,” he tweeted.</p> <p>British Prime Minister Theresa May had asked last week for an extension up to June 30 in a letter to Tusk, seeking a further short extension to the April 12 departure date.</p> <p>
