DAKAR (AA) – Chad’s president called on the international community Monday to provide more support to anti-terror operations in the Sahel region.

Attending the two-day G5 Sahel Summit in the capital city of N'Djamena between the five nations of Chad, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Mauritania and France, President Idriss Deby underlined the importance of improving business and employment opportunities for an efficient fight against terrorism.

Also referring to the role of the G5 Sahel Joint Force in anti-terror operations in the Sahel, Deby called on the international community to do more to support the force.

This comes amid reports that France will gradually decrease the number of troops it deploys in the scope of Operation Barkhane in the Sahel.
