Besiktas close to win league title with impressive form

By Ercan Dogan

ISTANBUL (AA) – Besiktas took another big step for capturing the Turkish Super Lig title by beating Buyuksehir Belediye Erzurumspor 4-2 on Sunday.

Having collected 70 points, the Black Eagles sealed their 22nd league victory as they have four draws and six defeats in 32 matches.

This victory gave Besiktas a seven-point advantage over second-place Fenerbahce as Galatasaray follow these teams with 62 points in the third place with eight games to play.

– Cyle Larin having best season of his career

Canadian forward Cyle Larin put an impressive season performance and his form is beyond expectations.

After joining Besiktas from the US' Orlando City in the 2017–18 winter transfer window, he netted four goals in his first season.

Larin, 25, only scored one goal in his second season and he was loaned to Belgium's Zulte Waregem in July 2019, where he had nine goals and 11 assists.

This season, he increased his form and has a promising display in the left-forward position in Sergen Yalcin's team.

He became one of the most creative players of Besiktas by scoring 19 goals in 37 matches in all competitions.

– Great contribution from Rachid Ghezzal

Algerian midfielder Rachid Ghezzal scored a tremendous long-range strike over B.B. Erzurumspor to net his second successive goal.

The 28-year-old right-winger has a vital role in the team's attacks with three goals and 14 assists.

Besiktas also received an unexpected contribution from midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, 28, who has a better season compared to previous ones.

Oguzhan, who scored nine goals in the 2015-2016 season and five goals in the 2016-2017 season, helped Besiktas win back-to-back league titles.

Despite failing to meet expectations next three seasons, Oguzhan has been slightly better with three goals in 18 league matches this season.
