Basaksehir stretch lead to 8 points in Turkish league

By Fatih Erel</p> <p>ISTANBUL (AA) – Medipol Basaksehir stretched its lead in Turkey’s top football league to eight points after beating Akhisar 3-0 on Sunday. </p> <p>With the latest win, the league leaders improved to 44 points and had an eight-point lead in the Turkish league after runner-up Galatasaray drew Alanyaspor 1-1. </p> <p>Basaksehir had a clean start to the second half of the Turkey’s Super Toto Super Lig with three wins in a row. </p> <p>Reigning champions Galatasaray stayed at the second place with 36 points after Saturday’s drew with Alanyaspor in an away match, they are now eight points behind Basaksehir.</p> <p>Also on Sunday evening, Besiktas defeated Antalyaspor 6-2. They are at third place with 33 points.</p> <p>Fenerbahce defeated Goztepe 2-0 on Friday evening to move away from the relegation zone, improving to 23 points. </p> <p>The struggling Yellow Canaries have been suffering the worst season in history, with only four wins in 19 outings.</p> <p>Fenerbahce are now in 12th place, only six points from the bottom of the league, and a distant 21 points away from the top spot.
