ANKARA (AA) – La Liga’s Athletic Bilbao defeated Barcelona 3-2 and won the Spanish Super Cup while Lionel Messi was shown a red card for the first time in his Barca career.
Antoine Griezmann of Barcelona scored the opening goal of the match at the 40th minute but Oscar de Marcos equalized the game for Athletic Club shortly after.
The French forward scored another at the 77th minute, but Athletic Club managed to come back at the 90th minute with Spanish striker Asier Villalibre, forcing extra time.
Spanish forward Inaki Williams hit an incredible extra-time winner and brought the title for Athletic Bilbao for the third time, completing the comeback for the Basque side.
Argentinian superstar Messi was sent off for the first time in his career for Barcelona after hitting Asier Villalibre of Athletic Bilbao at overtime.
