Atalanta, Leipzig into Champions League quarterfinals

ISTANBUL (AA) – Italy's Atalanta and Germany's Leipzig advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals Tuesday night.

The second leg Round of 16 matches kicked off earlier in the day with four matches played so far.

Atalanta beat Spain's Valencia 4-3 in an away game. The match was played behind closed doors without fans due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

In the first leg matches, Atalanta had also defeated Valencia 4-1 to have a strong case to move on.

Leipzig defeated England's Tottenham 3-0 at home. An early Marcel Sabitzer double in the 10th and 21st minutes gave Leipzig a 2-0 lead over Tottenham. Emil Forsberg scored the last goal of the game in the 87th minute.

In the first leg, Leipzig had also defeated Tottenham 1-0 in an away game.

Following Tuesday's games, Atalanta and Leipzig reached the last 8 in the UEFA Champions League.

On Wednesday, France's Paris Saint-Germain will take on German club Borussia Dortmund, while titleholders Liverpool will face Spain's Atletico Madrid at home.

Borussia Dortmund defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 at home while Atletico Madrid edged out Liverpool 1-0 at home in their first leg games.
