TUBAN, Indonesia (AA) – At least 10 people were killed and 9 others injured after a bus collided with a truck in Indonesia’s East Java province, police said.

Probolinggo Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Arman Asmara Syarifuddin told Anadolu Agency that a bus carrying 40 passengers and a truck loaded with fertilizer collided on the Probolinggo road on early Friday.

“Ten dead victims have now been evacuated to the hospital,” said Syarifuddin.

He said two foreign tourists from Austria who had just toured the tourist island of Bali were among the victims. “One [tourist] died and the other was injured. Now the injured is being treated,” he said.

Police were questioning the drivers of both vehicles to find out the cause of the accident.

Transport accidents are common in Indonesia, where buses and trains are often old and badly maintained.

In April, at least 11 people were killed when a bus rammed into several other vehicles in Indonesia’s West Java province.
