ANKARA (AA) – Archaeologists in India on Wednesday claimed to have found a 500-year-old temple, local media reported.

The temple — believed to be 500 years old — was found in the Mahanadi river in the eastern Odisha province.

Archeologists have said that the temple submerged during the 1933 floods in the state's Nayagarh district.

"This temple has a very old history. It is around 450 to 500 years old," NDTV quoted Anil Kumar Dhir, chief of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, as saying.

"We are working on a project, documenting the Mahanadi valley, so we were looking for this temple. Around a week ago we were informed that the upper part of the temple is visible."

He said the temple is in good shape and could be revamped.
