Yemeni preacher dies of wounds in Aden

ADEN, Yemen (AA) – A Yemeni preacher on Wednesday succumbed to wounds he sustained in an assassination attempt in the southern city of Aden last week.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Sheikh Yasser al-Azzi in Aden last week and fled the scene unscathed.

“He died of his wounds today,” a local medical official said, requesting anonymity due to security concerns.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Since 2015, the city of Aden — which currently serves as Yemen’s interim capital — has suffered a series of bombings, assassinations and abductions.

Yemen fell into civil war in 2014 when Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including capital Sanaa, forcing the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi to flee to neighboring Saudi Arabia.
