SANAA, Yemen (AA) – A senior Yemeni military commander survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday after coming under fire by a group of unidentified gunmen in Yemen’s eastern Hadhramaut province.

“Major-General Saleh Timas, commander of the Yemeni army’s first military zone, survived an assassination bid by unidentified attackers in Hadhramaut’s Shibam town,” a senior military source told Anadolu Agency.

The source, speaking anonymously as he was not authorized to talk to the media, said Timas had been slightly injured in the attack.

The same source also noted that Timas had been visiting Shibam to mediate a dispute between two local tribes.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s assassination attempt.
