Yemen, Jordan report additional deaths from COVID-19

ISTANBUL (AA) – Health authorities in two Arab countries confirmed new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus Friday as the region continues to battle the pandemic.

Yemen reported 10 additional deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 335.

Nineteen infections were recorded taking that figure to 1,240, while recoveries rose to 536 with 23 new diagnoses.

At least 1,147 people contracted the virus in Jordan.

The number of recoveries reached 897 while the death toll hit 10 with 1 more fatality.

Since first appearing in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit.

The pandemic has killed over 523,560 people worldwide, with nearly 11 million confirmed cases and more than 5.8 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
