World’s largest aid group to hold assembly in Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – Hundreds of representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will meet in Turkey on Sunday, the organization said Friday.

The IFRC general assembly will address humanitarian crises in Myanmar, Somalia, Iraq and Syria during the seven-day summit, according to a statement.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu are expected to address the summit in Antalya.

The assembly will select a new IFRC president as well as vice presidents and board members for the next four years.

Kerem Kinik, president of the Turkish Red Crescent, is a vice president candidate for the Europe region.

Around 1,500 guests from Turkish and international aid organizations will attend the conference.
