World Cup: Denmark, Australia share points in Group C

ANKARA (AA) – Denmark and Australia drew 1-1 at the Samara Arena in the World Cup Group C match in Russia on Thursday afternoon.

Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen's half-volley gave Denmark an early lead in the seventh minute.

However, Australia found the equalizing goal in the 38th minute, when the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system was used to award Aussies a penalty kick after forward Yussef Yurary Poulsen's handball.

Australian Captain Mile Jedinak scored his second penalty goal in the tournament to draw the match, 1-1.

Poulsen will miss the Socceroos' final group stage match against France because of receiving two consecutive yellow cards.

In the second half, both teams missed their chances to take the lead.

With the draw, Denmark increased its points total to four, while Australia got its first point in the tournament.

In the other Group C match, France will take on Peru at Ekaterinburg Arena at 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT).

The last match of the day will pit Argentina against Croatia at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium at 9 p.m. local time (1800GMT).
