WASHINGTON (AA) – One person is in custody Wednesday after personal belongings were thrown over a White House fence, forcing the compound to go into lockdown, the Secret Service said.

“The individual was immediately taken into custody by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers,” an unnamed Secret Service official said, according to a White House pool report.

“Protective sweeps of the north grounds are ongoing.”

The Secret Service did not identify the objects that were thrown.

Lafayette Square, a public park at the north end of the White House, has also been closed to the public.

A previous pool report from the White House earlier Wednesday said that an ambulance and fire truck were seen around the White House.

Media reports said President Barack Obama was inside the White House at the time of the incident.

The disturbance Wednesday came one day after the White House was placed on lockdown after a male perpetrator jumped over a fence near the White House grounds.

The suspect was allegedly fleeing the scene of a crime after having committed a robbery in the area.
